“One School, One Book” wraps up with assemblies

Students and staff at Michael A. Maroun Elementary School gathered recently for assemblies to celebrate the conclusion of this year’s One School, One Book initiative. The selected title, “The Tale of Despereaux” by Kate DiCamillo, captivated students and sparked schoolwide excitement over the past few months.
The One School, One Book program is designed to foster a love of reading and build a shared literacy experience across grade levels. At MAM, the initiative brought students, teachers, and families together through daily readings, classroom discussions, and creative activities inspired by the beloved story of a brave little mouse with big dreams.
Throughout the initiative, students enjoyed dedicated reading time and a series of engaging activities that brought the book to life, culminating with wrap-up assemblies filled with smiles, laughter, and prizes.
“The goal of One School, One Book is to create a community of readers, and ‘The Tale of Despereaux did just that,’” said MAM Principal Stephanie Locke. “Our students connected deeply with the characters and themes, and it was incredible to see their enthusiasm grow each day.”
