Phoenix’s Marriott earns distinction as NYS Central North Zone Health Teacher of the Year
When Anna Marriott began her tenure six years ago as a middle school health teacher in the Phoenix Central School District, she never envisioned her work would be recognized by colleagues across the state. However, that’s exactly what happened when the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (NYS AHPERD) recently named her the Middle School Health Teacher of the Year.
This prestigious award recognizes outstanding educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching health education, inspire their students, and make significant contributions to their school community. Marriott was selected for her innovative teaching methods, commitment to student wellness, inclusivity, and her ability to connect with students in meaningful ways.
“Anna is an exceptional educator who goes above and beyond to ensure her students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to make healthy, informed decisions,” said John Jeffries, PCSD’s Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics. “Her passion for health education and her dedication to the well-being of our students make her truly deserving of this honor.”
Throughout her career, Marriott has been a leader and a mentor at Emerson J. Dillon Middle School. She is involved in various clubs, activities and teams, and serves on several committees within the district.
“Thank you to my students that inspire me to do better, and my administration that supports me to do the work that’s needed (to benefit our) kids,” Marriott said while accepting the award. “I’d also like to thank my family who anchors me and reminds me of what matters most. I truly believe if you love what you are doing and it makes you happy, you will find success. I sincerely thank you all for being part of it.”
