Academic Intervention Services / Response To Intervention

The purpose of Academic Intervention Services (AIS)/Response to Intervention (RTI) is to intervene early when a student is struggling with the intent of building academic success, competency and preventing a sense of failure for the student. AIS/RTI is based on a problem-solving model aimed at improving student's academic, speech or behavioral needs. It is a practice of (1) providing high quality instruction and interventions matched to student need, (2) monitoring progress frequently to make decisions about changes in instruction or goals and (3) applying student response data to important education decisions. This process is applied to decisions in general, remedial and special education, creating a well-integrated system of instruction/intervention guided by student outcome data.

Each building has an AIS/RTI team that looks at students who may be at-risk for failure in one or all of the three areas. Within this process are three (3) levels of service:
TIER I TIER II TIER III
Univeral interventions available to all students in a classroom or school which can consist of whole-group or small group strategies. Individualized interventions that target each student's specific needs. Intensive interventions for students who do not respond to Tiers I and II and need interventions more frequently, for longer duration or provided individually.

If a student is eligible for AIS/RTI services, parents are notified and updated on their student's progress quarterly.
