Free/Reduced Meal Information
Children need healthy meals to learn. Phoenix CSD offers healthy meals every school day and your child/children may be eligible to receive free or reduced price breakfast and lunch. The 2016-17 meal prices are $1.55 for breakfast (at all schools), $2.60 for lunch at Michael A. Maroun Elementary, $2.65 for lunch at Emerson J. Dillon Middle School and John C. Birdlebough High School. Reduced price meals are $0.25 for breakfast and $0.25 for lunch. Checks may be written out to “Phoenix CSD Food Service Dept.”

Free/reduced meal applications are mailed home in the District calendar at the start of the school year or can be picked up from the Food Service Office or the main offices and kitchens at each school building. Also, for your convenience, the application can be downloaded below.

Who can apply?
Anyone in the school district can apply. Eligibility is based on yearly gross income.


What are the benefits of applying?
Qualifying for free or reduced priced meals can help stretch your family's budget and also helps our school district because it makes a different the state and federal aid that we would be eligible to receive.


How many applications do I need?
Only one application per household is necessary.

Do need to re-apply every school year?
Yes, a new application must be completed at the start of each school year.

I have foster children in my household. Is the process to apply the same?
Please complete one application for each foster child in your household.

I received a Direct Certification Letter from the Department of Social Services. What do I need to do?
In order to qualify for next school year, mail the Food Service Office the Direct Certification letter as soon as you receive it (Food Service Department: 11 Oneida Street, Phoenix, NY 13135). The Food Service Department will need the information from that letter before your child can receive free meals.

I work seasonally. Am I qualified?

If you have a job that is seasonal (construction, plowing, self-employed, etc.) you may be qualified. Please complete an application either now, with your yearly gross income (from taxes), or complete an application when your hours become reduced.

When does the free or reduced meal price take effect?
Students receive free or reduced meals when the application has been approved. Parents and/or guardians are responsible for the cost of all purchases until the application is approved.
